
At 7:33 in the morning on the 24th of February the formal flag-raising ceremony on Pikk Hermann tower will take place in Tallinn. Many students will gather to celebrate the event.
ESN is pleased to let you know about some Independence Day Celebrations!
On Wednesday, February 24th, the Republic of Estonia will be celebrating its 92nd birthday!
We would like to draw your attention to some Independence Day events organized by Tallinn University Institute of History and Tallinn Student House. Join them to see how Estonian students celebrate the Independence day!
There are two options to choose from:
FIRST OPTION
WHAT - Estonian Movie Marathon - flag-raising ceremony - Independence day parade
WHEN - 9 PM February 23rd till around noon February 24th
WHERE -Tallinn University Institute of History (Rüütli Street 6) - Toompea - Freedom Square (Vabaduse väljak)
The Institute of History is organizing a movie marathon on the eve of the Independence Day. You will have a chance to see some recent gems of the Estonian movie industry. Don't worry if your Estonian is not fluent yet, there will be English subtitles. ;)
There will be some snacks, but you are welcome to bring your own snacks, too. The event is free of charge!
They will be screening the following movies:

At 6:30 AM the participants of the movie marathon will gather at the yard of Institute of History and at 7:10 the procession will start moving towards Toompea to participate in the flag-raising ceremony at 7:33. After that, at 8:15, the students are going to place flowers at the monument dedicated to students and teachers perished in the War for Independence. At 10 AM they will gather to the Freedom Square to watch the Independence Day parade.
SECOND OPTION
WHAT - Flag-raising ceremony, tea at the Student House, Independence day parade
WHEN - 7 AM till around noon February 24th
WHERE - City Hall Square (Raekoja plats) - Toompea - Student House (Raekoja plats 16) - Freedom Square
If you want to go straight to the flag-raising ceremony or the parade, you can join Tallinn Student House. Tallinn Student House will gather students at the City Hall Square (Raekoja plats) at 7 AM. At 7:10 AM their procession will move to Toompea for the flag-raising ceremony at 7:33. Afterwards they are going to place flowers at the monument dedicated to students and teachers perished in the War for Independence. The procession will finish around 8:30-8:40. Should you decide to wait for the parade, you are welcome to go back to the Student House (Raekoja plats 16), have some warm tea and hang out there for about an hour. The Student House is going to the parade by 10 AM.
