4 jewellery artists form Sweden
Time: 12 February-2 March
Place: Hop Gallery (address Hobusepea Street 2)
The Hop Gallery display of the works of 4 Swedish jewellery artists is a symbiosis of sobriety and dreams and true stories which have found their shape in jewellery items. There are crude and rational accessories drawn into silver with a hammer as well as small ghost-like creatures - "Mad dog with goggles for seeing in the dark" and "Pig-cat singing opera in the shower" - which are mixed into the assemblage of ornaments and symbols. Seemingly cute and naive, but with a much darker narrative reflecting through.
Karin Roy Michelle Andersson, Klara Brynge, Gertrud Heinerud and Serena Holm graduated from Göteborg School of Design and Crafts in 2009. Although all of the four women have acquired a similar education, they have a different approach to contemporary jewellery art.

Waiting is a luxury. There's no time. Neither patience. And still we are waiting. At all times. For someone. For something. To come. To go. Or for the right moment to arrive. To enter. Exit. Or to quit. This is a piece about waiting. Inspired by Samuel Beckett's dramatic texts and by the personal disability. Personal disability to wait.
Jüri Nael graduated from Viljandi Culture College and LABAN Centre London. He has choreographed nearly sixty theatre productions in Estonia, Finland, Sweden and England. He is an associate professor at Tallinn University and Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Last year he was awarded Master of Arts degree with distinction from The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and King's College London. Currently he is doing PhD degree in Theatre and Drama at Royal Holloway (University of London), being supported by the mobility grant from Estonian Ministry of Education and Research and Foundation Archimedes.

"Coppelia"
Time: 04 March at 19:00
Place: Estonian National Opera
A ballet by Léo Delibes
Based on the story by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann „The Sand-Man“
World premiere on May 2, 1870 in Opéra Paris
Premiere at the Estonian National Opera on March 4, 2010
Choreographer-Stage Director: Ronald Hynd
Music Director and Conductor: Mihhail Gerts
Conductor: Erki Pehk
Designer: Roberta Guidi di Bagno
Assistant Choreographer: Marilyn Vella-Gatt
After the premiere at Opéra Paris in 1870, Coppélia has been a huge success with audiences, and it has been in the repertoire of theatres for almost a century and a half.
The choreography by Ronald Hynd has enticed the audiences at the English National Ballet for several seasons. The choreography is based on the version originally composed by Marius Petipa and exudes classical beauty accompanied by wonderful melodies by Delibes.
Doctor Coppélius, a maker of toys, creates a life-size doll Coppélia and his only wish is to bring this doll to life. When this eventually happens, Coppélius finds out that two young lovers Swanilda and Franz have fooled him. The story goes through mistakes and adventures, ending with a merry wedding party of Swanilda and Franz.
“There’s no prince and no princess in it. It’s peasants, it’s a boy and a girl in a village, and there are no overly romantic tones to it. It’s just a simple romance – no swan, no sleeping beauty. It’s life. And I think that’s why it’s really always been successful, because people can identify with the very simple, charming story.”

“The Early Years — Erik Nietzsche Part 1” (“De unge år — Erik Nietzsche Part 1”) Denmark, 2007
Director: Jacob Thuesen
Cast: Jonatan Spang, David Dencik, Carl Martin Norén etc.
Subtitles: in English
91 min.
This film is brought to you in cooperation with the Embassy of Denmark.
Erik Nietzsche is an intelligent but in many ways inexperienced shy young man who is convinced that he wants to be a film director. In the late 1970s Erik is accepted by the Danish National Film School where he enters a world of angry unhelpful tutors, weird fellow students and unwritten rules. It is both an exhilarating and angst-provoking period and Erik feels increasingly like a foreigner in the film industry. He
encounters trade union disputes, falls in love and experiences self-assured, empowered women who refuse to make a commitment. It is a drama full of comedy — a sharp portrait of a conceited but entertaining world of film which we suspect our dogged young director will eventually concur with his vision.

Michael (or 'Micha') is a 17-year-old growing up in communist East Germany in the 1970s. He spends his time with his friends listening to banned pop music and partying. Micha is trying to win over the heart of Miriam, who is dating a West Berlin boy. Over the course of the movie Michael and his friends need to make compromises between their own believes and the ones of the communist society they live in.
